Misty Sky is an exciting two-year-old filly by Sands Of Mali, based with Classic-winning trainer Hugo Palmer at Michael Owen’s exquisitely provisioned Manor House Stables in Cheshire.

Foaled in February 2022, she is out of the smart Italian mare Madda’s Force (Blu Air Force), who was a four-time winner and finished placed in Listed and Gr.3 company on numerous occasions from the ages of two to five. Her first foal Dontellyourmother (Biraaj) was a winner over 6f in Italy as a four-year-old.

Madda’s Force is one of four winners out of the winning Selkirk mare Madda’sblueyes, who hails from a rich black-type-producing family that includes the Gr.1 Santa Barbara Handicap heroine Bequest (Sharpen Up) and the Gr.2 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes winner Opal Tiara (Thousand Words), amongst many others.

The covering sire, Sands Of Mali, was an exceptionally fast two-year-old and later outstanding sprinter when in the care of Richard Fahey. He won the Gr.2 Gimcrack Stakes at York in 2017 as a juvenile, before taking the Gr.3 Prix Sigy and Gr.2 Sandy Lane Stakes on his way to finishing a narrow second in the stallion-making Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot as a three-year-old.

Sands Of Mali enjoyed his finest hour back at Ascot that October when winning the season-defining Gr.1 British Champions Sprint, in the process defeating an exceptional field featuring no less than seven Group 1 winners. A son of sire of sires Kodiac, he was retired to Ballyhane Stud for the 2021 breeding season. His progeny has sold for up to €70,000 and he had a winner with his second runner when Hide The Evidence won in France in the middle of April.

Hugo Palmer says: ‘She is a really lovely filly from an Italian family. The dam got black-type at two and Sands Of Mali was an exceptional two-year-old. We just loved this filly at the sales, thought she was really strong and athletic, and she has done really well since.’

Misty Sky is an attractive and good-moving filly and continues to receive highly positive reports from her trainer. It is going to be exciting to follow her progress this year and beyond.
