Deva Racing is thrilled to offer shares for sale in Rizg, a high-calibre five-year-old gelding by No Nay Never.
Originally based with Roger Varian, Rizg won a 6f Yarmouth novice on his only outing as a two-year-old, and four of the eight horses in behind went on to win races later in their careers. He returned to action at three in a 6f Doncaster novice race, where he finished second, then confirmed himself a very smart performer when fourth in the Listed Carnarvon Stakes.
That Newbury race was absolutely brimming with quality. It was won by subsequent dual Gr.3 and Gr.2 winner Tiber Flow, future Listed winner Sam Maximus was third, and the fifth home, Cadamosto, went on to finish fourth in the Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup on his next start.
To finish in amongst such high-quality horses marked Rizg out as a potentially top-class sprinter. He was also pointed towards the Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup on his next appearance, wearing first-time blinkers, but a slow start seriously compromised his chance and in the end he did extremely well to finish 14th of the 20 runners.
Regrettably, that was the last time we saw Rizg in racecourse action as a three-year-old, and he was also absent for the entirety of 2023.
He returned to the track, newly gelded, in a competitive 0-105 class 2 handicap over 6f at Newcastle in June of this year. Understandably exuberant on his first start in so long, he pulled too hard and was denied a clear run, though clearly hinted that his ability remains intact with a midfield finish, beaten less than seven lengths.
A lesser run followed at Ascot a couple of weeks later, but the handicapper has reacted by dropping Rizg to a career-low rating of 90, and it allowed Deva Racing director Ryan Tongue to secure his purchase at the Tattersalls Online August Sale shortly afterwards. A huge opportunity lies in wait.
Rizg has form that suggests he is not only brilliantly well-handicapped, but a potential Stakes performer of the future, particularly with sprinters typically enjoying such long careers. He is a half-brother to this year’s Gr.3 Tyros Stakes winner Hotazhell, and closely related to the five-time Gr.1 heroine Alexander Goldrun.
Horses with this sort of profile don’t come along very often; please get in touch to find out more about this hugely exciting opportunity.
